Marie Meerson

Painter — Photographer — Art-Therapist

I was born and grew up in Paris. For as long as I can remember, I have always painted, drawn, photographed. My mother, a true aesthete, taught me early on how to look — at paintings, colours, light. It is the most beautiful of inheritances.

In the face of life's hardships, creating has always been my anchor. It is what led me to become an art therapist at 25, and then to practise for more than fifteen years in London — including several years with a practice on Harley Street. Art therapy is not about teaching art — it is about using artistic media to help people, artists or not, express what they carry within them. Making creative means accessible, so that they can express themselves in an authentic and profound way. If I have been able to accompany others in this exploration, it is because I began with my own — and have never stopped. Creating is part of it. It is this movement, uninterrupted for thirty years, that you feel in my paintings.

The paintings

For years, I painted for the sake of painting — without seeking to sell, without concern for the market. Watercolours, mandalas, oils on canvas: a daily, intimate, necessary practice.

These works are the fruit of several decades spent developing a style, learning to express what I carry at my deepest level. My painting is vibrant, intensely colourful, dreamlike — and this is no coincidence. I have been exploring the unconscious, my own and that of others, for more than thirty years. What you see here is that exploration made visible.

Hanging one of my paintings at home is not simply about enriching an interior with colour and joy — it is about giving yourself a permanent window into reverie. A daily invitation to meditation. My works are rich enough, open enough, to become surfaces for projection — rather like a Rorschach test. Each person finds their own world in them, their own images, their own resonances. When you look at one of my paintings, it is not me you are looking at. It is yourself.

Today I choose to share these works — and to let them find the interiors that were waiting for them without knowing it.

Photography

I have always photographed the street — that respectful paparazzi quality, that way of capturing what is unposed. Some of my series will gradually become available here.

LTDMAP

For several years now, I have been developing an artistic and human project of a different nature — Le Tour du Monde à Paris — which weaves together my watercolour fabrics, photography and art therapy. To find out more: letourdumondeaparis.com
